What are crystals and gemstones?
Have you ever wondered how you can clear the unwanted energies from your aura, place, car on a daily basis? Well, you have just landed on the right page. Let’s start with clarifying the differences between the two healing stones that are used interchangeably. Crystals are a type of solid whose molecules are arranged in a geometric pattern. On the contrary, gemstones, such as diamonds and tanzanites are made up of only rare, precious or semi-precious minerals. The two types of stones are both sourced from nature (underground, caves, mountains, and oceans). As such, it is important to note that not all crystals are referred to as gemstones, but most gemstones can be referred to as crystals. As a disclaimer, we will use the term healing stones, to encompass both crystals and gemstones.
What are healing stones used for and how do we know that they are effective?
A snapshot of the history of healing stones
The use of healing stones dates many centuries ago globally, mainly in Brazil, Colombia and Asia. Contrary to popular belief, the African continent is also a major region in ancient discovery of healing stones, particularly in Ancient Egypt in 1500 BCE. The healing stones that were discovered include Emerald, Carnelian, Turquoise and Clear Quartz, and they were used for protection and health during wars. The discovery of healing stones continued to other African regions and the purpose of the stones was integrated with the rest of the world - for jewellery, health, physical and spiritual protection and eventually evolved into the current practical uses of healing stones.
The science of healing stones
Scientists claim that healing stones are used to bring balance to an individual’s life and mind.
The benefits of crystals that were documented included improvement on mental wellbeing; enhanced immunity including feelings of increased tranquillity, positivity and focus, as well as enhanced immunity and natural pain relief. As detailed in Judy Hall ‘s book, titled “The Little Book of Crystals”,
She shares that healing stones inhibit special properties and she describes it as “having a stable and unchanging energy pattern, each with a unique frequency and energy field, or resonance”. In simple terms, healing stones allow us balance and enhance our energies, based on the unique properties of each individual stone.

In a meditative-like state, hold the crystal in your hand and then focus on your goal, silently repeating a mantra”.
